23-Foot Ball Screw Repair That Saves Customer Thousands
Challenge
One of our distribution customers has a client that utilizes this 23-foot long, 4-inch diameter ball screw assembly. The assembly stopped working, which shut down their production operation.
When RBS received the unit, we discovered the ball nut was frozen on the screw with zero movement. After further analysis, it was a result of the ball bearing returns (12 of them) being destroyed. There was also severe damage to the screw itself.
Solution
We directed our customer to order the ball bearing return inserts from the OEM in Spain. While that was happening, our Service & Repair team carefully reworked the screw threads by hand, saving the screw and preventing the customer from spending thousands of dollars to purchase a new assembly.
Though this was a challenging project, the end result was a smooth-running, fully inspected assembly and a grateful customer.
